S. K. Maxwell--Jewelry

This design is reminiscent of the bas-reliefs from the tomb of the Emperor T'ai Tsung (7th c. A.D.). The saddle is shown with stirrups, the use of which was adopted by the Chinese armies. As one of mankind's most important technical inventions, stirrups made it possible for the mounted archer to stand in his stirrups.
